Have you ever heard of Thomas H. Lee Partners?


This is one of the biggest companies in the private equity and music industries respectively. Thomas H. Lee Partners, the private equity firm founded by Tom Lee, is known for its expertise in leveraged buyouts and has made successful deals such as the takeover of beverage company Snapple. Meanwhile, WMG is one of the three major record labels in the world and was acquired by a group of investors led by Lee in 2004.


However, the private equity and music industries are mourning the loss of Tom Lee, who passed away on February 23, 2022, at the age of 78. Lee had been affiliated with WMG for 17 years and was part of the original investor group that acquired the company from Time Warner. He served as a director of WMG until 2021 and was later named Director Emeritus. Lee was also a pioneer in the private equity industry and mentored generations of young professionals who followed in his footsteps.


Robert Kyncl, CEO of WMG, expressed his condolences and praised Lee's contributions to the company's trajectory. Lee's family also released a statement asking for privacy during this time. Thomas H. Lee Partners also issued a statement, describing Lee as a generous and gracious individual who cared deeply about his friends, family, and community.
